The British & Irish Lions won Team of the Year at the annual BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards.

The Lions beat Australia 2-1 in the summer to end a 16-year spell without a series win. Coached by Warren Gatland, Leigh Halfpenny scooped Player of the Series with the team captained by Sam Warburton.

The Lions follow in the footsteps of the 1971, 1974 and 1997 crop who all scooped the award. They beat the Europe Solheim Cup side and Team Sky to the award.

And the Lions were further honoured when Gatland scooped Coach of the Year. The only other rugby man to have achieved the feat was Clive Woodward who won the award back in 2003 - the year England won the World Cup.

Fullback Halfpenny was up for Personality of the Year and came second behind the runaway winner Andy Murray.
