European club and regional rugby representatives have held a "positive meeting" in Paris with the Six Nations' unions about creating a new European Cup. But once again talks ended without any resolution despite the ever-present bullish statements from those involved. The public utterances were all of a similar tone. The official statement said the get together was "constructive and progress was made, with all parties working towards a European competition". The Welsh Rugby Union, under increasing pressure as it is faced with a breakaway by its four regions if a solution is not found, referred to "cautious optimism … towards agreement". The BBC reported Wales' regions were encouraged by the signs from the meeting "but frustrated at the route taken to get there". © ESPN Sports Media Ltd
