France and Ireland both lost at the weekend but the size of the French loss means they drop two places to seventh in the latest IRB World Rankings while Ireland actually climb into fifth. Wales, who thumped France 27-6, move up one place into sixth.

The three sides are now separated by just two tenths of a rating point with England still the leading northern hemisphere nation with a cushion that has now grown to 4.7 rating points.

Italy's last-gasp defeat by Scotland means they drop to 14th, their lowest position since the IRB introduced the rankings in 2003. Scotland remain tenth only marginally behind Argentina.

Georgia and Romania secured their places at the 2015 Rugby World Cup over the weekend but they remain in 16th and 17th place respectively.

Portugal's 19-6 victory over Belgium in Division 1A of the European Nations Cup on Saturday means they climb to 21st.
