Gloucester are on the verge of signing Scarlets fly-half Aled Thomas, reuniting the player with his former head coach Nigel Davies.

Davies, who left Scarlets in 2012 to become Gloucester director of rugby, is hopeful that Thomas will show the same form in cherry and white as he has while deputising for Rhys Priestland at Scarlets.

Thomas made 27 appearances for Scarlets last season as Priestland recovered from an Achilles injury, and has been relied on again this year with Priestland away on international duty.

The South Wales Evening Post reports that, with Freddie Burns moving to Leicester next season, Gloucester are keen to build up their stand-off resources. Davies has already signed Scotland's Greig Laidlaw but has indicated he wants to add another fly-half to the squad.

And with Priestland signing a new Scarlets contract, Steve Shingler returning from injury, and Llanelli RFC's Josh Lewis rated highly, it is likely that Thomas will have to leave Parc y Scarlets to find more game time.
