Copeland and Williams banned for two weeks

Cardiff Blues' Robin Copeland and Scarlets' Liam Williams have been banned for two weeks following last Sunday's heated 'Judgement Day' derby.

Both players were sent off during the bad-tempered clash at the Millennium Stadium, with Copeland dismissed for a nasty stamping incident and Williams receiving a red card after two yellows from referee Ian Davies.

Williams was sent to the sin-bin after just six minutes for a mid-air tackle on Wales team-mate Alex Cuthbert. However the independent citing commissioner at the match cited Williams for the dangerous tackle, in effect upgrading the yellow card to a red card.

A disciplinary committee upheld the citing and in a statement said "there was a heavy onus on the tackling player to ensure the safety of the player in the air."

The pair will be free to play again after midnight on Sunday May 4, meaning Copeland will miss the Blues' PRO12 fixture against Connacht, while Williams will sit out Scarlets' derby against Newport Gwent Dragons. Both players have the right to an appeal.
