The New Zealand influence on the Irish rugby team has grown after former All Blacks prop Greg Feek was appointed scrum coach.

Feek will join head coach Joe Schmidt and forwards coach John Plumtree on a Kiwi-dominated coaching staff for the Ireland team as well as being involved in the country's scrum development program.

He will begin a two-year contract for the Six Nations champions ahead of their November internationals.

Feek, a loose-head prop for Canterbury and the Crusaders, played 10 Tests between 1999 to 2001.

He served as scrum coach at the Hurricanes before joining Irish club Leinster in 2010, where he worked under Schmidt.

Schmidt said Feek was influential in helping Ireland in a part-time capacity during their Six Nations campaign.
