Warriors already back for pre-season training

For Worcester Warriors' players the post-season break has lasted a month as they returned to pre-season training more than two months before their attempt to bounce back to the Premiership starts.

"We have a squad of committed players who all have aspirations to ensure we have a successful season," Dean Ryan, the director of rugby, said. "The players understand our expectations going forward and they are excited about being part of something here.

"The next few weeks provide us with an opportunity to assess the squad and develop players to ensure we have prepared effectively when the season starts."

It is not all bad. After fitness assessments the squad will fly to Portugal for a ten-day training camp.

"This pre-season campaign will be tough for players but the benefits will be evident throughout the season. Players will be working hard and creating a strong team ethos in a positive environment. And that will only be advantageous in the long-term."

Worcester, who have spent heavily over the last few months despite being odds-on favourites to go down since well before Christmas, are expected to go head-to-head with Bristol in the Championship. Bristol lost out in the play-offs to London Welsh despite splashing out on players themselves, seemingly in the expectation they would gain promotion this year.
