Grant Gilchrist will captain an inexperienced Scotland side against Argentina in Cordoba on Friday.

Scotland, who won but did not impress in their wins over USA and Canada on the first leg of their summer tour, have been boosted by 13 new arrivals as some players have gone home.

Gilchrist, who will win his seventh cap, said it was a huge honour to lead the side. "I hope that I can fulfil what it is to be Scotland captain. For me it's a boyhood dream. Of course there's massive responsibility, not just to this team, but to the entire country and Scotland fans throughout the world, but I'm really excited by it."

Only four players in the 22-man squad have more than 20 caps, although Ross Ford will become Scotland's most-capped hooker when he makes his 76th appearance. Scrum-half Grayson Hart, lock Jonny Gray and back-row forward Kieran Low all make their first starts.

"What we've seen from previous games on the tour has been a desire to play," said head coach Vern Cotter. "Mistakes have crept into our game because we haven't spent much time together. I've been pleased with the energy and desire to score tries but not happy with the execution.

"I'm looking to them to bring that same energy and desire to carry the ball and secure opportunities and hopefully fresh legs can help. I need to see what players are doing. We have to show teeth. We have to be able to attack from anywhere and we have to be able to dictate the pace and tempo of games. It's a challenge."

Scotland: Stuart Hogg, Sean Maitland, Nick De Luca, Peter Horne, Tommy Seymour, Duncan Weir, Grayson Hart, Alasdair Dickinson, Ross Ford, Geoff Cross, Jonny Gray, Grant Gilchrist (capt), Robert Harley, Blair Cowan, Kieran Low.

Replacements: Pat MacArthur, Gordon Reid, Jon Welsh, Tim Swinson, Chris Fusaro, Henry Pyrgos, Tom Heathcote, Dougie Fife.
