Sale Sharks-Salford match put on hold

Ambitious plans for a cross-code fixture between Sale Sharks and rugby league's Salford Red Devils, which was scheduled to be played at the AJ Bell Stadium in August, have been put on hold.

The clubs share the ground and plans for the match were announced back in February. But logistical difficulties regarding their league seasons have led to it being postponed.

"Our coaching staff was behind the concept from day one but actually fitting the game in has always been the tricky part," said Salford chief executive Martin Vickers. "The original date sits very close to some key fixtures for us at the back end of our season, and for Sale it is right at the beginning of their new campaign.

"We are disappointed not to be able to take part but feel due to the lack of a suitable date we must act in our best interests and put plans to play the Sharks on hold. We will continue to work with the Sharks and the stadium sponsors to look for another potential date in the future."
