Chiefs sign Will Skelton's younger, bigger brother

The Chiefs have signed the younger - and bigger - brother of New South Wales and Australia cult hero Will Skelton.

Cameron Skelton was set to join New South Wales' senior squad in the coming pre-season, having played for the under-20s this season, but the 145kg and 205cm second-row, who played for Samoa in the IRB Junior World Championship in New Zealand recently, fielded an offer from the two-time Super Rugby champions that was "too good to pass up".

Chiefs high performance manager Chris Tindall said the huge dimensions of the younger Skelton are appealing. "Cameron possesses what we are looking for in a lock with his size, strength and potential so our focus will be on developing him further through our development programme."

Tindall said Skelton's recruitment was part of the Chiefs' active attempts to provide opportunities to New Zealand-born players who want to come back. The Skelton brothers were born in Auckland but moved to Australia early last decade. Sir Graham Henry tried to prise Will Skelton across the Tasman to the Blues in 2014 but he chose to stay and he was selected for the Wallabies earlier this year.
