Edinburgh have suffered a pre-season blow with the news David Denton will be out for three months.

Denton picked up a hamstring injury in training and will now begin his recovery which will involve "progressive loading of the hamstring tendon", according to Edinburgh. Denton missed out on Scotland's summer tour due to concussion and will have to prove his fitness prior to the November Tests.

"David tore a hamstring playing a conditioning game of touch," Edinburgh boss Alan Solomons told the Edinburgh Evening News. "He did nothing for seven weeks as we had to be cautious because of the concussion and now this. He will be out for a while.

"He certainly won't start the season but will probably be back a bit before Matt Scott who has had everything in his shoulder cleared up through surgery and is expected to return in November or December."
