Henry Speight is unlikely to join the Australian squad this week according to Fairfax Media reports, despite being cleared for eligibility to join the Wallabies from September 11. Speight will have to continue to wait to join the squad after he suffered a sore hamstring that kept him out of an anticipated NRC appearance for the Canberra Vikings on Saturday.

This delay makes it more likely Speight will make his debut for the Wallabies on the road, when Australia tour South Africa and Argentina in the final rounds of the Rugby Championship at the end of the month.

Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie has told Fairfax Media the Wallabies would be careful with the powerhouse winger and won't be putting a timeframe on his much anticipated introduction to the Test squad.

"The comeback trail has been pretty seamless but he literally woke up sore," McKenzie said. "It's not like he's had another episode but he's woken up sore in the same area. I've seen the scans, it's certainly not dramatic but the fact that it's there - you'd call it a strain - you're going to be conservative.

"I'm not interested in creating some sort of chronic issue. He's with the Brumbies and they've been rehabbing him well, so we'll wait. When he's available, he's available."

The Brumbies winger has had to live in Australia for three years before being available for Wallabies selection, under IRB eligibility rules, but his brief stint playing for Waikato in New Zealand after he arrived in Canberra to join the Brumbies at the end of 2010 meant the Fiji-born winger had to wait another 12 months before getting his chance to play for Australia and this hamstring niggle looks to have cruelled his chance to enter the squad for his first Test this week.

Injured Wallabies half-back Will Genia is expected to make his injury return to the Wallabies squad alongside Benn Robinson and Joe Tomane as Australia prepare to take on Argentina on the Gold Coast this week.

It is reported Genia is still some way off his Test return but will be brought into the training squad this week, alongside Robinson, Tomane and Rebels centre Tom English, with Rebels half-back Luke Burgess headed back to Melbourne to play for the Rising in the NRC this week.

Australia will take on Argentina on the Gold Coast on Saturday and have a two-week break before they head to South Africa and Argentina at the end of the month.
