Wales board tackles concussion issue at all levels

The WRU has said a zero tolerance approach to concussion must be adopted with a call for greater awareness of the issue in clubs and schools.

The board said it wants players immediately taken off the pitch and medically examined if it is thought they have concussion. In a new policy document it called for clubs at all levels to be able to recognise the symptoms of concussion and act accordingly.

A new document - "Concussion, Recognise and Remove" has been sent to all Welsh clubs.

WRU national medical manager Prav Mathema told the BBC the move was a "big step forward" for the game. "We want as many people as possible in every club to be aware of the guidance and advice so that it becomes a truly effective means of dealing with concussion."

Josh Lewsey, the WRU's head of rugby, said: "A great deal of high quality work has gone into creating this programme and we can be rightly proud of the calibre of the outcome."
