Leicester will be without scrum-half David Mele for Saturday's Aviva Premiership clash with London Irish after he was handed a one-week suspension.

Mele pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a charge of 'stamping or trampling' during the match against Bath last Saturday, the Rugby Football Union said in a statement.

The Tigers suffered a humiliating 45-0 defeat at the Recreation Ground, failing to score for the first time in Premiership history. Their misery was compounded by the dismissal of Frenchman Mele by referee Wayne Barnes for his stamping infringement in the 77th minute.

The RFU confirmed the punishment in its statement, saying: "David Mele was given a one-week ban beginning the 23rd September 2014. He is free to play again on 30th September."
