Robbie Fruean has returned to the Crusaders after just one season with the Chiefs, the result of his standout season for Hawke's Bay in the ITM Cup. The 26-year-old made just four appearances for the Chiefs this season and was omitted from their 2015 squad after the franchise welcomed back Sonny Bill Williams and signed impressive Taranaki centre Seta Tamanivalu. Fruean, who has had two heart operations, played 61 times for the Crusaders between 2010 and 2013. He starred for the Magpies in their run to the championship final - playing 12 times for the province.

"We're excited to have Robbie back with us for 2015. He is a good man with a lot of talent and we welcome him back with open arms," coach Todd Blackadder said. "Robbie showed during this year's ITM Cup what great progress he has made with his health and fitness of late, so we know that he will be eager to get out there and show that he's got what it takes."

He is one of four new signings for this year's beaten finalists. Hooker Ged Robinson will play for his fourth Super Rugby franchise after stints with the Hurricanes, Melbourne Rebels and the Highlanders, while Northland wing Jone Macilai and promising Canterbury lock Scott Barrett also make the squad.
