Saracens lock George Kruis has been cited for a tip tackle on wing David Halaifonua in Friday's Premiership defeat to Gloucester at Kingsholm.

Kruis could now miss much of England's Six Nations campaign as the maximum penalty for the offence is an eight week suspension. Kruis made his England debut against New Zealand on November 8 and appeared in all four of autumn internationals.

The lock was awarded a yellow card by referee JP Doyle after he watched the in-stadium TV replay but the RFU's citing commissioner disagreed, ruling the offence was worthy of a red.

The 24-year-old will face a three-strong panel in London on Tuesday evening. If the panel believes there was intent, Kruis could be slapped with the maximum eight week ban.

Kruis is likely to be named in England's Six Nations squad with Wasps' Joe Launchbury injured. If available, he will compete for a spot with Courtney Lawes and Dave Attwood, who were Stuart Lancaster's favoured pairing in the November internationals, as well as fit-again Leicester lock Geoff Parling, who missed the autumn Tests with concussion.

Meanwhile, Northampton's Australian prop Salesi Ma'afu will also face a hearing as a result of totting up three foul play yellow cards/Level 1 citings this season. He will stand before a three man panel on Wednesday.
