Newcastle Falcons tight-head prop Kieran Brookes has been called into the England squad for the Six Nations opener against Wales as cover for David Wilson.

Wilson, who has started all of England's last ten Tests, is being treated for a nerve impingement in his neck and will not train on Friday.

Head coach Stuart Lancaster, however, is hopeful the condition will improve in time to play against Wales. H said: "We have brought Kieran in as cover at tight-head as a precaution because Davy has a small nerve impingement which should settle down."

Lancaster also invited London Irish back Shane Geraghty, who was last capped in 2009, to join the squad as centre cover.

"I didn't want to cause any further disruption to the Saxons so Shane's addition is a good opportunity for him on the back of good form and helps us to train with appropriate numbers on Friday," said Lancaster.
