Keven Mealamu will miss the opening three rounds of Super Rugby 15 as the Blues and the All Blacks hooker look to manage his body and workload in Rugby World Cup year.

Mealamu stands alongside Nathan Sharpe as the most capped Super Rugby player in history, with 162 caps, after missing fixtures in the past couploe of seasson with long-standing calf injuries, but he he will not top the standings on his own until round four, against the Lions at North Harbour Stadium, after deciding to take advantage of an early-season conditioning window.

"I'm looking to play the game when the boys get back from Africa," Mealamu said as New Zealand launched the season College Riffles club in Auckland. "It's a good chance to get a bit of extra conditioning under the belt. I feel like I've arrived in really good nick but that trip over there in the past couple of years I've picked up an injury."

James Parson is likely to start for the Blues in mealamu's absence.
