Toulon fly-half Frederic Michalak has suffered another injury blow after he fractured his hand at the weekend.

The No.10 came on in the second-half for Rudi Wulf but picked up the injury in the last moments of Toulon's 37-21 win over Castres. The prognosis sees him sidelined for six weeks which not only rules him out of Toulon's title race but also places his World Cup hopes in jeopardy.

France name their 36-man training squad for the World Cup next week and his hopes of featuring in the showpiece tournament may be restricted to being an injury replacement.

The news will be a bitter blow for Michalak. This is the second serious injury he has picked up this year after suffering a shoulder problem which saw him only return at the end of March.
