Rebels flanker Jordy Reid has been locked in for another two years with the club. In impressive form, Reid has played a major role in the Rebels run of four wins from their past five matches, and was named player of the round in The Growden Medal for round 13.

Making his presence felt amongst the Rebels highly competitive back-row, head coach Tony McGahan was pleased he would be a part of the Rebels franchise until the end of the 2017 Super Rugby season.

"Jordy has been a terrific example to his team-mates through his attitude to his Rugby, both when he is in the team and when he had to be patient and force his way towards selection," McGahan said. "He has always shown a determination to learn from those around him, be that team-mates or coaching staff, to make the most of any opportunities and to continue to develop his game.

"Those traits, coupled with his popularity amongst his peers and Rebels fans, made extending his contract a real priority for the club; we're excited to watch Jordy continue to grow wearing Rebels colours."

In his third season with the club, Reid has experienced both the highs and lows and said he was excited to be able to continue his Super Rugby journey at the Rebels.

"I love playing for the Rebels; it's just a great bunch of blokes to be around, and a great staff to work with, plus I really like the city of Melbourne itself," he said. "I feel like we've got a really good opportunity to do something great at the Rebels, and we have improved across the whole program over the last eighteen months; I didn't want to miss out on that!"

Considered to have a riches of talent in the back-row, the Rebels have the likes of Reid , Scott Fuglistaller, Colby Fainga'a and Sean McMahon all fighting for a starting position and Reid believes the competition has accelerated his development.

"The competition in the back row definitely brings the best out of me, and that's probably the same for all of us fighting for those two flanker positions in particular," he said. "Colby Fainga'a, Scott Fuglistaller, Sean McMahon and myself have a great battle, and there's heaps of competition across the whole team which pushes all players to improve and get better."

The Rebels sit just four points off the Australian Conference leaders the Brumbies and three short of the Waratahs and will take on the Reds on Friday night.
