Rob Horne has been suspended for three weeks pleading guilty to a lifting tackle in the weekend defeat by the Lions at Ellis Park in Johannesburg on Saturday. He will miss the final two rounds of the home-and-away season and the first round of finals action should the Waratahs make the post-season.

His is the third Waratahs player in two weeks suspended for a lifting tackle, after Tolu Latu and Will Skelton were banned for four weeks and two respectively for an offence in the victory over the Crusaders the week before.

"They are obviously cracking down a bit on foul play or whatever you want to call it, stuff off the ball," Waratahs captain Dave Dennis said. "We lost two guys tonight to the bin, so that's 20 minutes with 14 men. We've got to be a lot smarter around that sort of stuff. Obviously maintain the aggression and physicality, but just be a bit smarter around what we do."

SANZAR duty judicial officer Adam Casselden "considered the incident had an entry point in the low-end range, which starts at a four-week suspension for lifting tackles".

"I then added two weeks as a deterrent to send a further message that this type of tackle cannot be tolerated in the game due to the risk it poses to players.

"Mitigating factors included the player admitting guilt for the offence and demonstrating remorse for his actions. This, among other factors, entitles the player to a 50% reduction, which results in a three-week sanction."
