A brace of tries from Luke Wallace helped Harlequins to a 24-19 win over the USA Eagles in Philadelphia.

The Eagles have just one more warm-up match against Australia before their World Cup opener against Samoa on September 20 but will take heart from the two tries they scored against the Aviva Premiership opposition.

The Eagles featured the likes of Toulon's Samu Manoa, Cardiff Blues' Blaine Scully and young Saracens prop Titi Lamositele and they grabbed an early 11-0 lead thanks to two penalties from AJ MacGinty and a try from Thretton Palamo. But it was Harlequins who went into the break 14-11 ahead with Karl Dickson and Wallace crossing.

The customary emptying of the benches occurred in the second-half and Quins replacement Ben Botica knocked over a further five points in the second 40 with Wallace adding another try. Harlequins were leading 24-14 in the final stages but USA Sevens star Zack Test grabbed a late consolation try for the Eagles.

"Scoring that try really isn't anything for me; it was a great effort by the boys," Test said afterwards. "We took the ball all the way from our 22 to score in the corner. It's just a great effort that shows we're going to put the full 80 minutes in. It sucks that we lost, but we're always moving forward and it's all about that first game against Samoa in the World Cup."
