Sam Carter signs short-term Bordeaux deal

Bordeaux-Begles are set to sign Australia international lock Sam Carter as cover during the Rugby World Cup, club president Laurent Marti said on Thursday. The 26-year-old will join from the Brumbies until November 15, Marti said.

Carter is currently in England with the Australia World Cup squad as one of the reserves who could be called up should another second rower drop out through injury. The 12-capped Carter played in Australia's last World Cup warm-up match last Saturday against the United States.

Carter will play a maximum of four matches for Bordeaux, who have struggled at the start of the new Top 14 season, and will act as cover for South African Jandre Marais, who broke his hand on the opening day of the season against Castres.
