La Rochelle secured only their second win of the Top 14 season with a 23-6 defeat of Agen at the Stade Marcel Deflandre.

The hosts built an early 6-0 lead thanks to two penalties from the boot of Zack Holmes, before Bautista Guemes halved the deficit with a penalty of his own.

Lepani Botia Veivuke scored a try on the stroke of half time, converted by Holmes, that stretched La Rochelle's lead at the break.

Agen hit back with a Burton Francis penalty in the second period, but just a minute later Benjamin Lapeyre scored the hosts' second try and their win was confirmed with 16 minutes left as Alexander Northam touched down.

Victory for La Rochelle lifted them into 10th and left Agen rooted to the foot of the Top 14 table.
