Wasps director of rugby Dai Young admitted his side "got what we deserved" after seeing them slump to a 24-16 defeat at the hands of Leicester at Welford Road.

Although there was only an eight-point gap between the teams in the end, the outcome was decided well before full-time with Wasps making the scoreline a little more respectable with a late consolation try.

The defeat was Wasps' second in three Aviva Premiership matches this season and boss Young had few complaints about the outcome.

He said: "We got what we deserved today, nothing, for we are not clicking in attack or defence."

Vereniki Goneva and replacement Telusa Veainu crossed for Leicester's two tries, with Owen Williams adding four penalties and a conversion for the hosts.

Wasps, who only trailed 13-9 at the break, went over through replacement Lorenzo Cittadini with two minutes to go. Ruaridh Jackson slotted the conversion to go with two Jimmy Gopperth penalties and an Elliot Daly three-pointer.

Leicester director of rugby Richard Cockerill was impressed with his side's effort following some indifferent recent showings, and felt they were full value for a third successive win of the season.

He said: "It was a more complete performance and we deserved to win.

"We were good in attack and did the basics a lot better than them. We seemed to get the raw end from the referee in the first half but we tightened up after the interval.

"We were mentally resilient and wanted it far more than them. Our defence was outstanding as they are a very dangerous side."

One of the major talking points of the game was the 53rd-minute sin-binning of Wasps fly-half Gopperth for a head high challenge on home full-back Mathew Tait.

Gopperth led with his forearm into Tait's face and could have been considered fortunate to escape with only a yellow, but both coaches accepted it was the correct decision.

Cockerill said: "It was about right, it was a definite yellow card as he could have avoided it."

Young said: "It was a yellow card without a shadow of a doubt but there was no malice in it.

"It wasn't ideal as we were trying to build at that stage but it didn't affect the result."

A fruitless afternoon for Wasps was compounded by the loss of influential forwards Nathan Hughes and Matt Mullan to injury.

"Matt has a hamstring twinge whilst Nathan had a knock on the knee. It's worrying but hopefully they will be okay," Young said.
