Wasps fly-half Jimmy Gopperth has been handed a three-week ban after pleading guilty to striking Leicester's Mathew Tait on Sunday.

Gopperth was sent to the sin-bin in the second half after colliding with Tigers back Tait in mid-air as they attempted to catch a kick.

"The charge against Jimmy Gopperth of Wasps for punching or striking, contrary to law 10.4(a) during Leicester Tigers vs Wasps on November 1, was heard last night," a Rugby Football Union statement read on Wednesday, after the half-back had appeared before its disciplinary panel in Coventry on Tuesday evening.

"The player pleaded guilty. Gopperth was given a three-week ban. He is free to play again on 24th November."
