Cardiff Blues hooker Matthew Rees has been hit with a seven-week suspension for his stamp on Harlequins No.8 Nick Easter.

Rees was issued with a straight red card for the stamp which occurred during in the 73rd minute of the Blues' Challenge Cup match against Harlequins on November 19.

He faced a disciplinary hearing in London on Wednesday and was originally hit with a 12-week ban by judicial officer Pat Barriscale but this was reduced by five weeks on account of Rees' clean disciplinary record and expression of remorse.

Rees is now free to play again on January 11, 2016, and both the player and EPCR - the body in charge of European rugby - have the right to appeal.
