Sonny Bill Williams will play in his second leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series tournament after he was named in the All Blacks Sevens 14-man squad for the inaugural Sydney 7s tournament this weekend.

Making his debut for the side at the Wellington 7s, Williams produced a mixed bag of tricks, with the star producing some acts of brilliance but was also hindered by several mistakes, two of which almost cost his side the Wellington 7s title.

Akira Ioane, Ardie Savea and Augustine Pulu were also named in the squad after strong performances at the Wellington tournament. While Dylan Collier and Lewis Ormand have been added to the 12-man side from Wellington.

Fellow All Black Liam Messam remained unavailable for selection with a calf injury as well as Sevens stars DJ Forbes and Sherwin Stowers.

The All Blacks Sevens were hit hard with injuries early in the series, with the side falling to seventh place after the opening legs of the tournament. But following their miracle win over the Blitzbok in the Cup final at Wellington, have moved to third place on the overall standings.

New Zealand will face trans-Tasman rivals Australia as well as Canada and Portugal in pool play.

All Blacks Sevens squad:

Kurt Baker, Dylan Collier, Sam Dickson, Akira Ioane, Reiko Ioane, Gillies Kaka, Ben Lam, Tim Mikkelson, Lewis Ormond, Augustine Pulu, Ardie Savea, Regan Ware, Sonny Bill Williams, Joe Webber
