Japan's first professional rugby player, scrum-half Wataru Murata, made an impressive debut for French side Bayonne scoring two tries in a 46-18 win over Lannem.
Murata scored his first try in the opening minute of Sunday's Division Two game and added a second after 12 minutes.
The 31-year-old from from Toshiba Corp. has signed a contract to play for the club from December 1 to June 30, 2001. His salary is to be decided by the number of wins and games he plays for the club.
Murata was a replacement for Japan during the Rugby World Cup, losing his place to the New Zealand-born former All Black Graeme Bachop.
