New Captain for Argentina
Buenos Aires
September 17, 1999

Lisandro Arbizu has been named the new Pumas captain after a Argentine Rugby Council meeting on Tuesday night.
Arbizu (pictured) as the youngest ever Puma's captain when he led the side in the 38-10 victory over Spain at in 1992 when only 20. The Brive centre has captained Argentina in 25 previous test matches.
The decision to appoint the French based Arbizu breaks from the Argentinian tradition that the captain has always played for a "home" club.
Arbizu was provisional captain in last month test matches against
Scotland and Ireland, while former captain Sporleder was suspended after being sent off in a club game. Subsequently Sporleder stood down as captain when his ban was lifted and Arbizu returns to the captaincy after a break of four years.
