Robinson hails World Cup-style citing system for Premiership

Bath coach Andy Robinson said today he would welcome an independent citing system for foul play in the Allied Dunbar Premiership, mirroring the procedure being used in the World Cup.

Robinson, who has refused point-blank ever to cite opposition players on his own team's behalf, said that taking it away from the clubs would be entirely different.

"I have had a policy not to cite players," he said. "If someone else is in charge then that would be different.

"The players have got to have discipline and we must not have young players being turned away from the game because of violence."

"Perhaps we have got to look at each incident and judge it in the right way but rugby should continue to be a man's game, as I tell my players."

Robinson was speaking after his hooker, Mark Regan and Gloucester prop Serge Simon were sin-binned following a try-line melee in a game Bath won 33-20.

Gloucester coach, Philippe Saint-Andre, less than happy that his side gifted Bath at least two tries, said that they had made too many mistakes.

"We lost control for 30 minutes and you can't do that and expect to win away from home."

However, he confirmed that a nasty facial injury to skipper Kingsley Jones requiring a total of 12 stitches, appeared to have been caused in a collision with his back row team-mate Steve Ojomoh.
