Axed centre Jeremy Guscott has been recalled to the England team, less than 24 hours after Clive Woodward left him out of the 22-man squad for the final pool match against Tonga.
The 34-year-old will replace his Bath club colleague Phil de Glanville who has failed to recover from bruised ribs sustained in the 30-16 defeat by New Zealand last weekend.
"Phil was expected to recover in time for Friday but he has not made the
progress we had hoped," said Woodward.
"However, we expect him to be fully fit in the next few days and to be in
contention for any future games."
Guscott's international career was cast into doubt yesterday after his exclusion from the squad but now he has a further chance to regain his place before the knock out stages get underway.
