Jim Telfer has brought back Gregor Townsend for the quarter-final play off against Samoa at Murrayfield on Wednesday.
The Brive fly half displayed some indifferent form in his two games in the pool stage, but despite a sound performance by Duncan Hodge in the final group game against Spain Townsend returns.
James McClaren remains in the centre where he will partner Jamie Mayer with first choice Alan Tait on the bench.
In the pack, the veteran Doddie Weir, who started against the Spanish, retains his place, in favour of Stuart Grimes. Otherwise the side is the same as that defeated by the Springboks in the opening group game three weeks ago.
