Venter banned for three weeks

South African centre Brendan Venter has been banned for three weeks following his sending off for stamping on flanker Martin Panizza the win over Uruguay last Friday.
The ban rules the centre out of the rest of the tournament but the Springbok management has already appealed.
Venter, team manager Arthob Petersen and Springbok assistant coach Alan Solomons left the Murrayfield hearing grim-faced after a Rugby World Cup disciplinary committee had given its verdict. All three refused to comment on the decision but Venter did say: "I still believe the Springboks can go on and retain the World Cup."
Pieter Muller is in line to take Venter's spot if the South African appeal is unsuccessful.
