Black Ferns crush Canada
October 18, 1999
After defeating the USA in the first match of the Tri Nations Series, Canada came back to earth with a resounding crunch as New Zealand defeated them 73-0 in Palmerston North on Saturday.
Canada did impress with the bravery of their defence, flanker Hay and hooker Shield leading the way, but they struggled with their passing amongst the backs. There is really no one in the world of women's rugby who can cope with the speed and ball handling flair of the New Zealanders and it was this that eventually broke the Canadians' resistance.
On the debit side for New Zealand were the injuries to flanker Robinson, wing Wall and skipper and hooker Palmer, which place them in doubt for Tuesday's clash with the USA, a re-run of the 1998 World Cup final.
