Bay of Plenty reach final with ease

Bay of Plenty have made the final for the second consecutive year - they lost to the Central Vikings in 1998 - and their third final in all. Basing their game around forward domination they easily won their semi-final against King Country last weekend. They will go into the final full of confidence, they are the only side to have beaten Nelson Bays this season.

The home side will be difficult to beat, especially if fly-half Warren Johnston, who played his 200th NPC game last weekend, is allowed to dictate with his boot. Not only is he a prolific, match-winning goal-kicker, he can also apply pressure with the extraordinary height and distance of his up and unders. No. 8 Mark de Goldi and locks Darian Hildreth and Peter Bowden will also need to be closely supervised if Nelson are not to build up the sort of momentum they achieved in the second half of their semi-final against Hawke's Bay.
