Crusaders winger Nemani Nadolo cops four-week ban for lifting tackle

The Crusaders have been dealt a major blow with powerhouse winger Nemani Nadolo suspended for four weeks.

The Fijian winger pleaded guilty to a lifting tackle on Brumbies scrum-half Tomas Cubelli, SANZAAR Judicial Officer Chris Morris taking that early submission on board as he handed down the ban.

But the process continued its confusing trend, with two weeks first withdrawn but then reinstated due to World Rugby guidelines.

"During the hearing the player pleaded guilty to the charge," Morris said in a SANZAAR statement.

"After careful consideration of the available evidence and the very helpful submissions of Mr [Aaron] Lloyd [Nadolo's representative] the offence was categorised as low-end which carries a four [4] weeks suspension.

"I took into account as mitigating factors the player's disciplinary record after a lengthy professional career, his guilty plea and the fact that the tackle was reckless rather than deliberate. The player was therefore given a two week discount on the original sanction creating a recommended sanction of two [2] weeks.

"I took into account World Rugby memorandums about lifting tackles and the need to deter this very action from the game. As such I found it necessary to add two (2) additional weeks to the recommended sanction."

The Crusaders have won seven straight since their opening round defeat to the Chiefs.

The seven-time champions have the bye this weekend but will then be without Nadolo for home games against the Reds and Waratahs, and a trip to Dunedin to face the Highlanders.
