Mehrtens injury still causing concern

There are reports in New Zealand that Andrew Mehrtens is not expected to train this week but is still likely to play against France.
The injury, which he picked up in the first half of the quarter-final win over Scotland is apparently to a ligament on the outside of the knee, rather than on the inside, which would be more serious. The scan which he was due to undertake on Monday has been delayed until today and there is much concern amongst the squad that he may fail to fully recover in time for Sunday's semi-final against France. The Canterbury fly-half is currently at the top of his form and is regarded as central to All Black success. As was seen in the game against Scotland, New Zealand lost their tactical direction in the second half when Mehrtens was missing and his absence against France would be a major blow.
