Springboks wary of Strauss - the translator
South African prop Cobus Visage has revealed that former Springbok captain turned Wallaby Tiaan Strauss (pictured) could pose a big threat in Saturday's semi final - even if he doesn't play.
"In this World Cup so far we've been calling all our moves in Afrikaans," said Visagie, and Strauss can easily translate all the calls.
"When we want to do fast moves or whatever we'll say it in Afrikaans. We might say 'throw it to Krynauw (Otto)' in Afrikaans, or 'throw it to that guy', or 'quick ball', and no-one can understand us. But when we've played Australia, Tiaan was translating everything we said."
As yet Australian coach Rod Macqueen has not revealed whether Strauss, who played against Wales in place of the suspended Toutai Kefu, will fill a place on the bench, but if he does it is likely he will be used as an impact player sometime in the second half.
Strauss has come on as a replacement for Kefu to great effect in six tests since qualifying to play for Australia early this year, but he has competition from Mark Connors and Owen Finegan for his spot on the bench.
"Tiaan did a very good job last week at number eight," Macqueen said. "We've got a bit of time to make a decision on the bench players. We've got a few situations there."
"It is very good to have Toutai back. He is very much part of our team pattern, has been with us right from the start, and it's a very big bonus for us," Macqueen said.
