British league moves closer

The concept of a British league has moved a step closer, with confirmation of its approval possible by the end of the year.
The competition, involving the top sides from England, Wales and Scotland in a 16 team league could then start at the beginning of next season.

Although issues surrounding promotion and relegation are still in the melting pot it is believed that the basic structure is in place with the composition being 10 English clubs, 4 Welsh and the 2 Scottish 'Super-Districts'

Glanmor Griffiths, chairman of the British league working party, is quoted in an English newspaper as saying, " Negotiations have been ongoing, particularly with the Rugby Football Union and the English clubs. The matter is still being discussed with the respective clubs and unions and there will be further discussions over the next month or so."
