Van der Westhuizen thanks Springbok fans

South African captain Joost van der Westhuizen was delighted with his sides performance after they secured third place by beating the All Blacks.
"I am just very happy - the side showed character in the last game of this millennium and the last game for Henry Honiball. I said to them before the game, 'lets go and win it.' It's nice to end the year and the World Cup with a win."
A relieved Nick Mallett spoke about his team doing a lap of honour, "It was just a spontaneous thing for the team. It is always a great honour to beat New Zealand, we don't do it much. It was really about thanking the supporters."
When asked how he felt about his team's overall performance during the tournament a delighted captain said, "To be honest I think it was very successful. One on one I would ask Larkham to do that drop goal again, but I would say we are going back winners even though we don't have the Cup."
Having taken a lot of criticism over the months, Van der Westhuizen ended by thanking the media and supporters for sticking by the team and said that the only way they could have proved them all wrong was by doing it on the field. He wanted to thank all the supporters by winning the last game.
