French coach stands down
Jean-Claude Skrela chose not to renew his contract with the French Rugby Federation on Tuesday, and has stood down from his post of coach of the French national side.
Despite guiding his side to the Final of the Rugby World Cup where they lost to Australia.
Skrela had been in the job since 1995 and in that time France have won two Grand Slams in the Five Nations Championship and two Latin Cup titles.
However, a desperately poor 1999 apart from the World Cup had put increasing pressure on him to step down and just days before the World Cup there were rumours that he would be moving on after France's tournament ended.
Skrela is to hold a press conference in Colomiers on Wednesday morning and the Frech Rugby Union are expected to name a successor early next week.
