Pablo Mamone writes: Organizers of the 2000 Punta del Este International Seven-a-side tournament confirmed yesterday the complete list of 16 national teams who will play in the great Uruguayan summer city on January Friday 7th and Saturday 8th.

Old Boys Club manager Dr. Pedro Bordaberry said that the 12th edition of
the tournament will not only feature all the South Hemisphere's big teams, but also a number of european participants, because this year the tournament is under IRB control and they must give places to underdeveloped South American countries like Peru and Brazil.

The teams are:
Australia
South Africa
New Zealand
Fiji
Samoa
France
Spain
Germany
Canada
USA
Argentina
Uruguay
Chile
Paraguay
Brazil
Peru


The tournament will begin in four pools of four teams each. IRB officials will decide the pools. In the final day pool winners and runners up continue for the Gold Trophy, and the remaining sides play for the Plate and Bronze.

Previous winners of this competition are: 1993 New Zealand, 1994 Fiji, 1995 Argentina, 1996 New Zealand, 1997 France (Sevens RWC qualifying tournament), 1998 New Zealand and 1999 New Zealand.

Punta del Este is located 100 miles north from Montevideo, and the city is famous for being the "South American St. Tropez".
