Colomiers prop banned for two years for gouging

Colomiers prop Richard Nones has been banned for two years for eye gouging following his injury-time dismissal in the Heineken Cup Pool Four match at Pontypridd tonight.

Nones, a 58th-minute replacement during the French side's 22-14 defeat at Sardis Road, was shown the red card by Scottish international referee Jim Fleming after his touch judge Bertie Craig had spotted an incident at the game's final scrum.

Craig's assertion of gouging led to Nones being dismissed and his opposite number Sven Cronk, who retaliated with a punch, being given a yellow card.

Welsh Rugby Union delegate Huw Lewis, acting as the match commissioner, handed down the 24-month penalty after a lengthy post-match disciplinary hearing.
