Fitzpatrick to coach Stade Francais?
December 10, 1999

The legendary All Black Sean Fitzpatrick has been offered the chance of coaching the French club Stade Francais according to reports in the British Press.

He is apparently in talks with the French club's wealthy owner Max Guazzini, who insists he wants the Kiwi in place before the end of the year.

Guazzini said, "We are hoping Sean will come for six months, and we are certainly doing our utmost to convince him to join us for the rest of the season."

Stade Francais's recent turn around in success has transformed them from a Third Division club into 1998 club champions. The coach who took them to that title, Bernard Laporte, has since moved to take up the national coaching post.

Gloucester's Philippe Saint-Andre was also short-listed for the position but he is expected to stay on at Kingsholm on an improved contract.
