Mendez and Leslie return for Cup clash
December 15, 1999

Argentinian prop Federico Mendez and Scotland star Martin Leslie will return to their respective Northampton and Edinburgh Reivers sides for their crucial European Cup clash on Friday night.

Mendez, the Pumas hooker, who missed Argentina's World Cup campaign due to injury, packs as tighthead prop for Northampton because Martin Scelzo, Matt Stewart and Martin Hynes are all injured.

It will be Mendez's first start of the season as Pool Six leaders Northampton target victory against their closest challengers.

The Saints, 32-8 conquerors of Edinburgh on Saturday, travel north minus the services of England fly half Paul Grayson.

Grayson, the club's all-time record points scorer, limped off after 15 minutes last weekend having strained knee ligaments, so Ali Hepher deputises this time around.

Scotland star Martin Leslie returns for the Reivers after missing Saturday's defeat at Franklin's Gardens because of a bout of food poisoning.

Fellow Scotland international Duncan Hodge is also back for the Reivers and is preferred to the highly promising Chris Paterson who is also among the substitutes.
