Waikato to take Ranfurly Shield on tour
December 16, 1999

In a move that is bound to please the smaller New Zealand unions, Ranfurly Shield holders Waikato have announced that for 2000 they have accepted three away challenges.

As a build up to their 2000 NPC season (they were beaten by Wellington in the semi finals in 1999) they will play 3rd division West Coast in Greymouth and North Otago in Oamaru.

Then they take on 2nd division Wanganu in Tokora before their 1st division campaign begins. They then have home defences against Northland, Southland and North Harbour.

Assuming that they are still Ranfurly Shield holders as the season draws to a close, they finish with two mouth watering fixtures against Canterbury and then Auckland.
