The management of the Canterbury Crusaders have confirmed that Canterbury NPC coach Robbie Deans will succeed Wayne Smith as coach for the Super 12 2000 season.
This promotion for Deans was widely anticipated in the event of Smith being appointed to the All Blacks position. Deans is an ex All Black and one of New Zealand's most respected young coaches. He joins the likes of Graham Mourie, Buck Shelford, Grant Fox and Bryan Williams as the next generation of potential All Black coaches.
Deans played all of his 5 tests at full back , between 1983- 86 , making 3 appearances against Australia and 1 each against England and Scotland. In all he kicked 50 points.
