Scotish centre John Leslie(pictured) is set to join Newcastle by the end of the month after being released by his Japanese club Sanix.
Leslie has plumped for the English club despite being offered the chance to sign a contract with the Scottish Rugby Union. He is believed to be have been greatly impressed by the facilities and overall set-up at Newcastle when he met Rob Andrew at the club last month.
Although officials in Scotland will be disappointed that Leslie will not be playing for Edinburgh Reivers as they had wished his decision to return to the British Isles will guarantee his full availability for Scotland's International squad session, which has not always been the case in the past.
Leslie, who suffered a serious leg injury during Scotland's opening World Cup game against South Africa, expects to be back in action in time for Scotland's opening six nations game against Italy in early February.

STOP PRESS:
Leslie has signed a three and a half year contract with Newcastle that will take him up to the World Cup in 2003. He will join the club after his wedding in New Zealand on January 29th.
