Dallaglio in line for captaincy
January 6, 2000
Lawrence Dallaglio may return as captain of England if Martin Johnson fails to recover from injury in time for the Six Nations Championship.
It now appears that the former England skipper, Dallaglio, has finally put behind him the tabloid scandals of last year. Club England chairman Fran Cotton said, "Lawrence is one of our great players and, as far as I'm concerned, he has served his time.
"The standing ovation he recived from fans at Twickenham when he returned to action before the World Cup shows what the English public think of him."
RFU chairman Brian Baister was insistent however that there was no pressure to pick Lawrence saying, "It is for Clive Woodward to make the decision that's best for England."
While Johnson struggles for full fitness, his England teammate Saracens lock Danny Grewcock is definitely out of the Championships. He requires surgery on a groin injury and will be out of action for two months.
